[Purpose/Significance]By discussing the dark side of mobile phone use on users' wellness, this study intends to improve the understanding of the relationship between IS use and users' wellness, and the quality of health information services of universities, libraries and medical institutions. [Design/Methodology]By collecting 6160 valid questionnaires and taking domestic college students as research objects, this paper explored the dark side of IS use(i.e. mobile phone) on users' psychological and physical health, and the regulating effect of physical activities on the negative impact of IT use.[Findings/Conclusion]Excessive use of mobile phone can lead to the negative effects such as triggering nomophobia, decreasing eyesight, reducing sleep quality, therefore damaging users' psychological and physicalhealth. Physical activities can reduce side effects of IS use on eyesight, sleep quality and health conditions. [Originality/Value]This paper has broadened the applying scope of self-regulating theory in the field of personal health management. It has also been found that physical activities have a significant regulating effect on the negative impact of overusing mobile phones.
