纳撒尼尔·霍桑短篇小说《胎记》科学家形象研究

摘要
《胎记》作为19世纪美国浪漫主义小说家纳撒尼尔·霍桑最著名的短篇小说之一,树立了"艾尔默"这一科学家形象,具有丰富的思想内涵和深刻的象征意义。论文旨在运用文本解读和文学社会学批评方法,从审美现代性的维度研究《胎记》中的科学家形象特征,追溯塑造这类形象的原因并探究霍桑的科技观。揭示霍桑从相反的方向反思科学技术对人类所造成的负面影响,以便为人类现代生活提供一定的警示。
The Birthmark,one of the best known short stories of 19 th century American romanticism author Nathaniel Hawthorne,created the scientist Aylmer whose image has rich ideological implication and profound symbolic meaning.This paper aims at studying the image of scientist in this short story,tracing back to the reasons of the image and exploring Hawthorne's view about science from the perspective of aesthetic modernity with the critical methods of text reading and literary sociology so as to reveal the side effects of science and technology to provide the warning for the modern life.
