Objective To establish and examine the reliability and validity of the China Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire( CLTPAQ) in the elderly Chinese. Methods Based on the short version of the Minnesota Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire( MLTPAQ),which was validated in American and Spanish populations,a questionnaire was established based on the Chinese lifestyle and cultural background. It was validated in 113 elderly patients aged over 65 years old. The internal correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the reliability of the questionnaire. Pearson correlation coefficient between physical activity energy expenditure and body composition, cardiopulmonary health indicators was analyzed to evaluate the validity of the questionnaire. Results The internal correlation coefficients between the two CLTPAQ assessments were 0. 66-0. 90,with high reliability. The muscle content( r = 0. 20),the maximum oxygen uptake( r = 0. 30) showed a significant positive correlation, while body fat percentage( r =-0. 20) showed a negatively correlation with total energy expenditure, which showed high validity. Conclusions CLTPAQ has high reliability and validity, and it is a reliable and valid tool to measure the leisure time physical activity of the elderly in China.
